In Washington She Bleeds
Two parties, both alike in dignity,
(That is, they have none, and we share their shame)
In filthy Washington, we lay this scene:
(A symbol fallen, corrupt endlessly)
From ancient grudge break to new mutiny,
(And both suggest the other side's to blame)
Where campaign ads make consciences unclean.
(But what is conscience inside the machine?)
From forth the filthy dregs of these two sides
(Is this our best? Is this all we can do?)
A pair of should-be brothers take our strife,
(Imagine us combinedwhat could we make?)
Manipulate the truth to suit the tides,
(Remember what a fact is? Damn the news.)
And bleed America's one dream of
